The logistics landscape

CORRIDOR

Uganda depends almost entirely on the Port of Mombasa for its overseas trade. Understanding the corridor is the first step to moving cargo across it well.

Roughly three in ten containers arriving at Mombasa are destined for Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, or eastern DRC. That dependence shapes the cost, speed and predictability of every shipment.

Seven structural challenges

What the corridor asks of you —
and how we answer.

The reality

Since late 2025, congestion at the Port of Mombasa has intensified, reshaping cargo flows across East African trade corridors and adding unpredictability to vessel discharge and onward evacuation.

How we respond

We set realistic transit-time commitments for each route, monitor performance against them, and build a working understanding of seasonal and route-level risk so shipments are planned around it.

The reality

Average truck turnaround time on the corridor has stagnated at roughly 94 hours, well above the 81-hour regional target, tying up capacity and inflating transporters' costs.

How we respond

We hold our transport partners accountable to agreed timelines, and track on-time performance in a partner register so reliable operators are the ones who carry your cargo.

The reality

Multiple weighbridges, inconsistent documentation checks, and border procedures along routes such as Malaba and Busia can raise operational costs by as much as 30% and introduce delays that are difficult to predict.

How we respond

We coordinate customs and border clearance with licensed, accredited partners, insist on accurate documentation, and operate — and expect our partners to operate — within the full letter of the law.

The reality

Even after major gains from the East African Community's Single Customs Territory, which cut Mombasa–Kampala transit from roughly 18 days to 3, the route remains among the most expensive per-tonne corridors in the region.

How we respond

We provide itemized quotations that clearly separate our scope of service from your own regulatory responsibilities — no hidden charges.

The reality

Many cargo owners still rely on phone calls and manual updates to know where their container is, leaving them unable to plan storage, staffing, or onward distribution with confidence.

How we respond

We send clear, proactive updates by phone, WhatsApp, or email at every milestone — loading, port clearance, border crossing, delivery, and empty container return.

The reality

Delivery orders, customs declarations, and proof-of-delivery records are frequently still exchanged on paper or in disconnected email threads, increasing the risk of errors, disputes, and delays at clearance points.

How we respond

We use structured documentation and invoicing templates so every delivery order, delivery note and proof of delivery is consistent and easy to find.

The reality

Because most forwarders — including High Tide — rely on independent trucking and clearing partners, inconsistent vetting and monitoring of those partners can translate directly into unreliable service for the end client.

How we respond

We maintain a register of vetted trucking, clearing, and port-handling partners, backed by formal agreements and clear performance expectations.

These are structural, sector-wide challenges that no single company can solve alone. High Tide Logistics addresses them the way any well-run forwarder should: through reliable operational practices, careful partner selection, clear communication, and full regulatory compliance — supported, where it adds real value, by practical technology such as shipment status updates and digital documentation.
